Cultural Spotlight: Conversations of the Heart: Letters Between Young Black Men and Women

This is the first of many Cultural Spotlights we will feature.  We here at PMC believe that positive efforts such as expression through literature and art, specifically in the black community should be recognized.  Natelege Whaley, a 21-year-old native of Brooklyn, New York and senior at Howard University, is curating a book of poems, songs, letters, raps, artwork and photography from people of color, ages 18-25, showing the generation’s thoughts about the opposite sex in friendship, dating, relationships and more.

For more information or if interested in making a submission, read more.

The book, which will be titled Conversations of the Heart: Letters Between Young Black Men and Women will be a powerful inscription of the state of black relationships from a young adult’s perspective. It’s tentative release date is February 2011.

Whaley is in need of submissions. Check out the link below to find out how to submit poems, songs, letters, raps, artwork or photography for the book. Submissions are being accepted until September 2010.

  1. This is great! I love the fact that aside from the expected poetry, that artwork and raps will be featured in this book!
